Wilson County ARES Meeting

Tuesday,  8 July 2008 - 7:00 PM

Wilson County ARES will meet from 7:00 - 9:00 PM on Tuesday, 8 July 2008 at the WEMA Training Center, located across the street from WEMA Headquarters at 117 Oak Street in Lebanon.

For the next two months, we will be covering net control procedures along with some practical exercises. This is to prepare members to operate in a net or to serve as a net control operator during an emergency. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

As we move forward, there is a need for volunteers to serve in one of these areas (the minimum requested number listed in parenthesis):

  • National Weather Service NCS  (4)

  • WEMA (2)

  • University Medical Center (2)

These individuals will also make up the core of a Rapid Response Team (RRT), which normally deploys first upon notification of an impending or actual disaster. Those who volunteer will receive additional training in their respective areas. Let me know if you are interested in serving in one of these groups.

One more thing. We are creating an notification roster for alerts. Please let me know what the best phone number or method is to reach you. I am also considering the use of text messaging for those with cell phones. Let me know if this is practical. (Remember, if there is a storm approaching, you can always monitor the 147.105 repeater, as well).

Thanks.
